The Types of Skinheads
Trojan Skins
Traditional, or Trojan Skinheads, also shortened to Trad Skins, are skins most closely related to the original wave of skinheads from the 1960s, with an affinity for Jamaican music genres and fashion, gaining its name from the British record label 'Trojan Records', founded by Jamaican Duke Reid, Lee Gopthal and Chris Blackwell in 1968.
Trojan Records had a lot of influence for Trojan Skinheads, even their logo was inspired by Trojan Records! trad skins are over-all mostly apolitical and anti-racist, emphasizing and embracing their multiracial origins, and black and white working class solidarity.
Suedeheads
Originating in the early 1970s, Suedeheads are an off-shoot of Skinheads, sporting a more formal attire and slightly longer hairstyle. The movement represented a shift toward stylistic sophistication, with some adherents even holding white-collar jobs.
While still holding close ska, reggae, and rocksteady, Suedes tended to gravitate towards British glam rock, and 2 tone. Specifically bands such as Bad Manners, Madness, The Specials, Ziggy Stardust, and The Sweet, just to name a few.
